The Food Network Pod at Love Cooking Festival Edinburgh

Exquisite Cakes at The Love Cooking Festival

The Exquisite Cake Company has been touring the UK with the Love Cooking Festival for the past two weeks, demonstrating icing techniques and sharing hints and tips to ticket holders at the event. The Love Cooking Festival, which is a series of live cooking shows featuring celebrity chefs such as James Martin, Gary Rhodes, Ainsley Harriott, Gino D’Acampo, Rachel Allen and many more, is helping to bring cooking TV live to an audience in Bristol, Edinburgh, London and Harrogate over the next few weeks. The Exquisite Cake Company has been working with the Food Network, the food entertainment television channel available on Sky 262 and online at www.foodnetwork.co.uk, giving demonstrations of basic to advanced cupcake decorations that you can do at home to wow and impress your friends and family. The Exquisite Cake Company only uses the finest ingredients for their baked goods and use locally sourced goods wherever possible. With the upmost attention paid to the quality of their goods, they are also very passionate about decoration, and insist that as we all ‘eat with our eyes’, cupcake must be individually decorated with flair. They have been demonstrating simple techniques totally achievable at home with only a few tools. To see their live demonstrations, which take place in between every single live celebrity chef session, pop on to the Love Cooking website and purchase a ticket to the next available event. Forth coming shows will take place in London Royal Festival Hall on November 2nd and Harrogate on December 5th.

Too many cupcake companies?

August 3rd, 2010

So you want a little treat, a perfect little bundle of happiness for you or a friend, something delicious, individual, well made, beautifully decorated and nothing that will break the bank. Well a cupcake is clearly the way to go! But who to go to? Every man and his dog has set up a cupcake company in the wake of the recession; stay at home mums looking for something to turn their hand to, budding entrepreneurs looking to head up the Next Big Thing and you always know a friend of a friend who has a cupcake venture. Every Tom, Dick and Harry has jumped on the band wagon with a muffin tray in one hand and icing nozzle in the other. So how do you know who to go to when you want that perfect little treat?

Experience is always important; in every field in the world, the more experience you have the more well-rounded your skill base and the better your product or service. A company that has been around for two or three month will still be in the learning curve more that an established bakery or cake maker.
Expertise also goes a long way, and while cakes are relatively simple to make as every mum and grandmother in the world has at one point or another baked a cake, knowing exactly what ingredients and flavours work, how to get the best icing consistency, what decorations would finish the cake off perfectly and how to get such a deliciously light and fluffy sponge, will set the better cake makers apart from the rest.
Appearance – We are told we eat with our eyes so whether you actually like the look of the cakes or not will sway people most of the time. Some prefer a covering of princess-style glitter and bright coloured frostings, whereas others will be drawn to the more natural looking creations with less icing.
How the cake ingredients are sourced and made are a major influence for many of us – the difference between a Greg’s cake, machine-made and loaded in chemicals, artificial flavours and preservatives Vs a hand-made cake with local butter, free-range eggs and organic fruit speaks volumes to those customers who are concerned about what they eat and where it comes from.
Tried and trusted brands also fill us with confidence; a recommendation from a friend has been statistically proven to make us more likely to purchase than a series of adverts in a local paper.

So many things to think of when all you really want is a cake! Choose wisely as there really is a difference between cupcakes these days. And you can’t bank on anything, until you’ve experienced an exquisite cake.

Make Your Own Wedding Cupcakes

May 25th, 2010

As the wedding season begins this year it coincides with budget cuts left, right and centre, making every little girls dream of a extravagant white wedding seem a little unreachable. Fear not! The Exquisite Cake Company have come up with some tips for success to make your own wedding cupcakes, ensuring that you still have your perfect day, with it costing the earth.

• Decide on the number of guests and whether there are children attending the reception. You want to allow approx 1.2 cupcakes per person to ensure that everyone gets to choose the one they want. (It is also nice to have a few cakes left over for the follow day!)
• Think about the style of your wedding (formal/informal etc), the theme of your wedding (summer garden party/autumn feast etc) and whether you have any images in your head of a perfect wedding cake. Use these to think of appropriate colours that would suit the day and bring these colours in to the cupcake cases, icing colours and decorations.
• Budget – can you stretch to include those gorgeous diamante charms on each cake or do you need to rein it in and keep to sprinkles or smarties?
• Stand – you will need a beautiful stand to display your cake during the reception. Traditional cake stands can normally be hired from your local cake shop, for more extravagant styles contact www.exquisitecakecompany.com, or try eBay if you want to buy.
• Practice! Once you have decided on your colours, theme, style, decorations, cases, sponge flavour, icing type and a stand, do a dry run, with perhaps half the number of cakes to ensure that you can do it with no hitches. Plan your time well and ensure you will have enough time the day before the wedding to make all of your cakes. Call on a bridesmaid or an Auntie to assist if necessary.
• Enjoy it! Baking and cooking for many people is a way of relaxing and may help to take your mind off of any last minute wedding jitters.

The Exquisite Cake Company uses quality ingredients in every cake they make, with no added chemicals, thinners, preservatives or additives. Only butter goes into our butter-icing, never margarine and we support local farms by purchasing butter and eggs from them. Each cake goes through the scrutiny of cake-obsessed perfectionists, ensuring the from the first bite to the last crumb, you can enjoy your Exquisite Cake on every level.

‘Cupcakes’ Secret to Marathon Success

April 27th, 2010

The Exquisite Cake Company took place in this weekend’s London Marathon, where 60, 000 people ran the 26.2 mile distance from Greenwich to St James’s Park in London. Exquisite ran for St John’s Ambulance, a very worthwhile cause, and the only charity that had an active part in the marathon event itself. With 1,400 volunteers handing out Vaseline, plasters and attending to the injured, they helped the event go off without a hitch.

Team Exquisite kept fuelled for their training with a balanced diet of cupcakes and running, proving that cupcakes really are good for you!

We would like you to do your bit and support them too by donating on our Just Giving Page. The money goes straight to them and will help St John’s keep doing their marvelous work.

Donation is so quick and easy, and every little helps! Please give to http://www.justgiving.com/runabbyrun/.

All our thanks, Team Exquisite.

P.s. see you at Weston Market next weekend, May 8th.
